My Wardrobe Malfunction
Nisha Samson | Dec 01, 2006
Snap went my bra strap in the middle of a meeting. While I was praying that gravity wouldn't work just this once, I was also thinking of an alternative. What was I to do? I couldn't leave work so buying one was out of the question. I just made the most of my resources at hand.A Snip, a Snap, There Goes my Strap
In case your bra betrays you, don't fret. If you are at work, make sure that you hold a lot of files and folders. Act as natural as possible and get hold of some paper clips. Yes paper clips! You can use these to hold that snipped strap in place. Make sure that you adjust and tighten them every 30 minutes but otherwise it works well. You could also use safety pins and even a stapler to hold that strap in place. A stapler pin may be rough against your skin, but hey it works!
Shoeless Cinderella
It was 9 am, the beginning of a long business day with an important meeting. CRASH and there went my heel. The cobblers said that they couldn't fix it. So I hobbled my way to a cab. Now there is an art in walking with a broken heel ladies! Drag your foot with confidence against the direction of breakage. And once you reach office, improvise with Fevicol.
Ditch the Stain not the Dress
A lovely work-cum-play dress that will also double up as your evening wear - sans the jacket of course - and a huge ink mark mocks you. In case this happens, just wash the dress in the ladies and dry it under the hand dryer.
If you don't have a hand dryer then you could borrow a scarf from a colleague and wrap it round your dress in a way that it covers the stain. A pin or a broach will hold it in place and who knows the scarf could even add that touch of glamour.
Pop Goes the Button
I like nothing better than my fitted boot cut pair of jeans. But what do you do when the button just pops off and you have nowhere to run? You can begin by casually covering the front with your bag. Once at work just tie a jacket really tight around your waist and voila you are good to go. You could also borrow a belt from a colleague. However if belts are not your thing then go for my favourite: looping a scarf through and tying it on one side.
And this Time It's the Blouse
There are a few things more embarrassing than the button breaking off your blouse. If this happens hold your files, folders or books in front till you get a pin or broach. If you cannot lay your hands on one then simply borrow a tie from your male colleagues and knot it in a funky way.
Is it a Bird, a Plane…It is a Churidar.
I was dressed to kill in my brand new white churidar a la Chandni.
I successfully avoided the huge puddle of filth but was plastered with it by a speeding car. I couldn't even think of washing it off because it was white. And then it hit me I took off my churidar as soon as I reached work and created magic. No it was not by showing a lot of leg, but by simply converting my kurti into a dress. I used the dupatta like an extended stole and it was perfect. In case your side slits are too high then pin it up and it works wonders. You may get a lot of stares but hey if you can carry the ensemble off then you have nothing to worry about.
If your kurti is short then just use pair of jeans and you will have an indo-western look. While dressing and accessorising it is not just about what you wear but how you carry the outfit off.
Now before you think that I am the queen of wardrobe malfunctions, let me confess that I have borrowed a few ideas from my friends. The solutions however are sure winners. They are living proof.
Pulling off an ensemble is all about wearing it with confidence and attitude. So the next time something goes snip or snap, don't fret you now have all these ideas to use. I am sure you can come up with a lot more…so write into me. Who knows the next time I may be using your gem of an idea!
