"They are the biggest sources of stress in my life," she whined. On deeper questioning, I found out that she was stressed because of her job, her everyday travel to work, her expanding waistline, and the politics at the school where she taught. Her mother-in-law and sister-in-law came next in the list of causes, followed by her own father.
Mrs. Gopal is a clear example of how you often relate to stress, in relation to others. I had a tough time convincing her that all stress is in the mind, and these are just factors which trigger the stress. I had an even tougher time telling her that stress is something that exists for every human being, and keeps changing.

Stress, by definition is our body and mind's response or reaction to a threat, which may be real or imagined. This threat could be in the form of a person, an object, an animal, an event, a thought, a relationship, or due to circumstances.

Stress usually results when what you want and are comfortable with, is quite different from what exists, at that point of time. Stress is also a feeling of being out of control, or being burdened with too many tasks, with no time to finish these tasks.
Hence, since the factors causing stress will always exist, stress too will exist at all times. Stress can only disappear when the mind's response can be modified, or when the mind can be diverted to something else.
