These are common in the first months and usually do not require any treatment. They disappear on their own.
Prickly Heat
This appears in the folds of the baby's skin generally due to accumulation of sweat and grime. Even though it is not as irritating to the baby as it appears, it is best avoided. Clean the area well and ensure that your baby is not over dressed.
Cradle Cap
These appear like brownish patches on a newborn's scalp. They are embedded in the skin and hence never try to scrape them off. Wash your baby's scalp daily and brush with a soft baby brush. If they persist, then consult your doctor for medication.
Colic
No one knows the real reason behind colic and hence it is difficult to diagnose. Inconsolable crying at about the same time everyday, for no apparent reason is a sure sign of colic. The good news is that colic has no known long-term side effect and colicky babies thrive.
Consult your doctor for relief medication and ensure that you keep calm during a colic attack. Assure yourself that this is a passing phase and that it will soon be over soon.
Breathing
Newborns breathe with their stomach. When your baby is sleeping, she will snort, gasp, groan and make irregular sounds. Do not be overly worried and rest assured that they will disappear within a couple of months.
The above is not a comprehensive list and your baby may have other concerns. Remember, when in doubt be sure to discuss with your doctor any concerns you may have.
