But have you given a thought that these things actually make us go beyond our budget. Here's how…
Do You Really Need to Buy This?
Marketing tricks play an important role in making you spend for things that you don't intend on buying. 70 % of the times it is the marketing team of a product behind its sales and making your bill exceed over the limit.
50% depends on the perception they create about the product. For example, a new Body Wash is launched, which costs much more than the one you are currently using. You might not buy it.
But the marketing team creates a perception of it being the best in its class and which pressurises our mind to buy the product.
20% depends on the fancy packaging of the product. If the product is meant for a younger generation the packing will include bright colours.
So next time you go shopping, look beyond the fancy pack and think if you really need this product.

Some of the most popular sales tricks include giving a free gift or the 'Buy One Get One Free' offers. For example, a brand sells their lip balm for Rs. 100 and gives another pack free; we will buy it even if it is not worth the price, as it will last longer.
But these offers don't last very long. Now how often are going to buy a lip balm for Rs. 100!
Check the original price of the product beofre it was on sale. Sometime they raise the price of the product and then resell it at the original price and call it a discount.
Ask Yourself:
- What was the original price of the product?
- Is the discount genuine?

It is very rare that we over spend buying a high quality product.
Are You Paying for the Brand or Product?
Competition has made every company work hard to get the top position. If a company is already reached the top position you don't mind paying extra cash for their product.
Also if the product is in demand it will tempt you to buy it and be a part of a discussion at work.
But may not be familiar with the smaller sub companies they have. Not everyone knows that Streetwear is a cheaper brand by Revlon, which delivers quality product.
A cheaper product can also be as good as the one that belongs to a high-end brand and costs double the price.
Ask Yourself:
- Am I buying this because my friend has?
- Did the Ad impress me to buy it?
