10 Steps to a Budget Beach Look

Are you going to a beach party this weekend? Get the perfect beach look without spending too much. Just dig in your closet and work with your old fashioned nylon slacks and other such clothing.

- A day at the beach or by the pool is incomplete without a sarong. Instead of spending on a new one, grab a georgette dupatta and wrap it around your waist. Just make sure that it is broad enough. You can also try this with a long scarf!
- Chunky jewellery is a must! Get cheap junk jewellery off the street. Beads are still in! Get beaded bracelets for just Rs. 10 each and layer them. You can also go for a thin beaded necklace at the same price, use these as bracelets or even anklets.
- This is the perfect time to flaunt your bikini or swimsuit. You can team it with hot pants or a short skirt. If you are self conscious yet want a sexy look, wear your bikini or swimsuit instead of lingerie under transparent clothes.
- Knee length pants are hot this season and the best option if you don't plan on swimming. You can make your own pair by cutting off the length of an old pair of jeans. Make sure they are well fitted and not one of your loose cargos.
- Leggings are big this spring! Team them with tank tops or layer them with skirts. If these are difficult to find, try wearing your yoga slacks.
- For a softer, more feminine look, go with cotton or georgette skirts and dresses. You can pick these up from flea markets like Fashion Street in Mumbai or Janpath in Delhi.
- If you want a more carefree beach look, then go for the bohemian look! You can put this together with a long skirt and a short, sleeveless kurta. Buy the skirt from your local street market for as cheap as Rs. 250 (after a good bargain). You don't need to buy a short kurta; just reduce the length of one of your kurtas.
- Flip-flops are the perfect beach footwear. Pick a pair of Osho slippers or beaded flip-flops for Rs.50 at your local street market!
- Whether you have long or short hair, dress it with colourful clips or flowers. Protect it from the sun with a printed bandana or a hat.
- Don't wear loads of make-up to the beach; keep it simple with shiny fruit-flavoured lip-gloss, and a kajal pencil or kohl. Make sure you wear sunscreen with a minimum of SPF 30.
