However, that does not mean you buy the first fancy outfit off the rack, which catches your eye.

Paediatrician Dr. Preeti Parikh of Mumbai's Shruti Nursing Home says, "It is advisable to dress your baby in a romper suit for the first nine months. After she has turned a year-old, it is safer to go for jeans, t-shirts and other such outfits."
Rompers are advisable since they will not ride up and expose your baby's chest, which is quite sensitive. These come with a snap-crotch, which enables you to change diapers quickly and efficiently.
Before you buy fancy clothes for your baby, check them for fit, fabric and safety.
Fabrics
Avoid buying clothes which come with lace or Velcro that can irritate and hurt your baby. Instead, opt for natural fabrics such as cotton or silk as these are soft on your baby's skin. While buying traditional outfits or party wear, opt for clothes which are not rough on the baby's skin or you will end up with a howling child at that important get-together!
Before you use the clothes, wash them in mild detergent to avoid minor skin irritation or allergy that can make the baby uncomfortable.
Weather
Too much exposure to the sun can lead to redness of the skin. So buy clothes which fully cover the hands and legs well. Buy cute cotton frocks, t-shirts or skirts for your little girl. Check brands such as Mother Care, Little Kangaroo for what they have to offer.
Avoid buying hats, which have an elastic band. This can make your baby cranky because the elastic could irritate the skin of your baby, particularly near the jaw area.
During the winter season, buy mittens, bonnets or hoods to keep your baby warm. If you are travelling, ensure the head and ears are covered properly. Buy pure cotton or woollen socks and not those made from mixed fabrics, which can easily form lint.
