Gone are the days when you saw it just as a saree or a kurta; it is now seen on the ramp as the Indian weave in global fashion.

Khadi's Fashion Quotient
Versatile! That is the word designers such as Anita Dongre, Rohit Bal, Deepika Govind and Archana Kochar use to describe the fabric.
Bangalore based fashion designer, Deepika Govind's contemporary style includes a lot of khadi couture. She says, "I like to work with blended khadi like Tencel. It is the softest kind, with lessened shrinkage (4-5 %) as compared to that seen in khadi garments (2 % more)."
A Fabric for All Seasons
You may be wondering whether khadi can be worn throughout the year. Informs Deepika, "Khadi is a fabric for all seasons since it is a natural blend. For example, when blended with wool in the ratio 30:70, it is comfort personified during winter. With cotton it can be used during the hot summer months as well."
With the western influence of denim, a weave, is here to stay, Deepika blended it with 100 % cotton to create an interesting fabric - khadi denim . Also, Eri denim from the Northeast, when blended with cotton keeps you warm. Thus khadi is the perfect answer to hot summers as well as cold winters.
