Designer Cuts
Picking the cut for an evening gown is very simple.
Just keep your body type in mind and make sure you are comfortable in it.
Play with colours and prints with a body hugging evening gown, which is exactly what fashion designer Pria Kataria Puri does in her designs.
Gowns are meant to make you appear taller. And to do so she uses a narrow end and a long side slit.
For fashion designer Savio Jon, an ideal evening gown is a simple, yet elegant flowing evening gown.
"Go for a bias cut gown in a flowing fabric such as georgette, with classic straps and a trail," he suggests.
Empire waists are still hot and happening and will be perfect for a flowing gown in chiffon.
Neck-to-Neck
Flaunt your collarbone with an off shoulder evening gown. It is classic and never goes out of fashion. The best part? It looks good on all fabrics and colours.
An off shoulder gown also gives you a great reason to wear a pretty neckpiece.
Soft cowl neck is making it big this season. Perfect for evening gowns, it also enhances the bust. A cowl neck is a must if you are going for a flowing fabric like chiffon or georgette.
From the Palette
Fashion designer Nida Mahmood guides us through the world colours, to pick just the right one for an evening gown.
"If you are confused about what colour to pick then be safe and go for black. If you have a great figure then go for Ivory. But a colour that is really hot this season and is perfect for evening gowns is deep wine."
Short Cut
For many, long lengths equals obstruct freedom of movement. Fashion designer Chaitanya Rao gives the perfect solution…
"Sometimes long evening gowns may look too pageanty. Cut the long story short by reducing the length. And a great way to do this is by using an asymmetrical hemline," he says.
Add Spice
After you have decided the basic features of your gown such as fabric and colours, it is time to spice it up.
- A long slit will not just help in movement, but can also be the focus of your gown.
- A deep back or backless never fails to get noticed. Who says you need to show cleavage to look sexy?
Accessories
Glam up your look with these accessories…
- A diamond brooch will give your simple evening gown an interesting twist. It is classic and very stylish.
- If you plan on wearing minimal jewellery, then go for a pair of chandelier earrings.
- And lastly, don't spoil your look by carrying a handbag. Instead, go for a bling clutch bag.
