Light's Right
Summer calls for light fabrics such as silk, linen and satin, which are top of the list of fabrics this season. While silk may sound heavy to a few, a lighter form of pure silk is great for summer.
Chiffon dresses are ideal for summer as are georgette and linen. Use chiffon to line dresses as well.
Straight Cuts
Keep the cuts straight this season, which calls for A-line skirts and dresses. Clothes should be feminine, with floral prints and straps, and well-fitted but not hugging.
Vineet Bahl, the name behind the label 'indjapink', in his summer 2007 collection has omitted the waistline. Where cuts are concerned, the empire cut is the highlight of his summer collection, and was used by other designers, such as Surily Goel too.
Layers and ruffles are done things, so don't repeat them this summer. Sleeves get shorter to beat the summer heat. Wear tops with mega and bell sleeves.
As the tradition goes, skirts get shorter this season too. But while bottoms are shorter, tops such as tunics and kurtas get longer.
Colour Cool
The colours this season are not eye-catching; instead they blend right in with the environment. Say "bye-bye" to bright colours and welcome pastels.
Fashion designer Anupama Dayal gives her take on the colours this season. "Use earthy colours this summer. Pale rust and pale pink are in."
To get the party started go metallic.
Summer Funk
Make your summer exciting; add the jacket dress to your wardrobe. Explains fashion designer Pria Kataria Puri, "The jacket dress is basically a knee length jacket. Button it up and wear a belt over it; there you have it - a jacket dress!"
Embroidery too, is very light. Thread work replaces heavy zardozi and sequin work. Pearls and beads can be used for a formal look.
Walk the Walk
Walkout the summer heat in cool footwear. Kick-out boots, and bring-in open sandals with thin straps, even ankle straps.
Tie-ups are a big hit this season; satin strings will be great for a casual semi-formal outing.
Animal prints hit the shoe racks too. Get leopard print stilettos or tie-ups.
Accessories and more…
Even when it comes to the accessories, stick to the theme and keep it simple. Wear either a neckpiece or a set of bangles. Let the earth tone reflect in accessories too. Large wooden bangles are back as are large beads, which have replaced smaller ones.
Don't be afraid to experiment, go ahead and create your own style. Have a rocking summer!
