Which is THE skirt?
An A-line (knee-length or long) with a fluid top/tube and a shrug (cropped jacket), or with a military/shaped jacket can work well for this occasion.
Interestingly, an A-line can dressed be down to work in the morning and dressed up instantly if you are rushing to this party post-work.
However, avoid wearing a super-hot mini (you do not want to look irresponsible, do you?)
What are the to-match accessories?
You could team it up with
- boots,
- wedges,
- pumps or
- bejewelled thongs,
- danglers or a beaded/stylish neckpiece (how about grey, white, black or pink pearls?)
- and clutch bag or a hobo.
Remember: Subtlety is the key.
Can I wear it?
Yes, you can.
A knee-length, narrow A-line is most suited to hide flaws of a pear-shaped, rotund or with-heavy thighs body types as it hugs the hips and softly flares out at the hem.
While, a wide (or panelled) A-line is a great bet for skinny to slim body types.
Wear a long one if you are tall and a knee-length if you are short.
Alternatives:
A drindl skirt (full-skirt with a gathered waistband inspired by traditional German and Austrian costumes), a circular skirt (cut out of a circle and falls on bias) or cargo skirts (with smaller or strategically placed pockets if you are bottom heavy) are suitable too.
