Which is THE skirt?
A short or long straight skirt (with a kick-pleat if you need room for movement) and a formal shirt with mellow, self-coloured frills/ruffles (or button-down wide cuffs) might work wonders for a formal look.
Another team-up with the skirt is a fitted vest and a suit jacket. Go for gabardine, twill or herringbone (or any suit material) as they shape up well.
What are the to-match accessories? Throw in a printed silk scarf, a string of beads (long or short) or a delicate stone bracelet-ear studs-chain set.
Carry a formal box or executive bag (chocolate, ox-blood, white or black…nothing bright) and matching shoes (pumps, pointy-toed, sling backs or stilletoes in matte or gloss leather).
Can I wear it?
You can if you are short, slim, medium or petite as they add visual height.
However, if you are beanpole-like (very slim and tall), a high-waisted, knee or calf-length shape with a slim belt will suit you better.
Alternatives:
A pencil/tapered or tube skirt in a heavy fabric if you are slim-hipped (or in a stretch knit if you are bottom heavy) are other options.
Both these skirt shapes can go long or knee-length with side, front or back slits.
