Save yourself from embarrassment! We tell you what to and what NOT too wear in your chosen industry.
Casual Culture
Media, call centre or an NGO, if your office allows casual dressing, make the most of it! This is your chance to wear smart casuals suitable for the season. More than what you should wear, make a list of what you shouldn't.
Casual does not mean you end up at work in your track pants and a loose t-shirt. Your dressing reflects your personality and jogging isn't on your list of responsibilities.
Avoid faded and torn jeans. Wear dark colours as much as possible as they look very presentable.
Make sure you iron your clothes and don't wear miss-matched combinations.
Go with sober accessories such as hoops instead of chandelier earrings. A simple beaded necklace or a chain with pendant can replace heavy neckpieces.
Corporate World
Working in an MNC? Monday to Friday, shirts and trousers are what you should be wearing. Avoid floral prints or very bright colours.
Don't overdo it with accessories. A pair of earrings, a chain and a few rings is all you need to you need to look chic.
Step into work in smart casuals on a weekend. If you work for an MNC, the farthest you can go with casuals is wearing a round neck t-shirt and jeans. Spaghetti tops are a complete no-no. But if you need rush to a party after work, you can wear those skimpy tops, but make sure you cover up with a jacket.
In case unexpected meetings are part of routine, carry a blazer at all times.
Denim Not Allowed!
Can't wear jeans even on Saturday? Relax; you can still dress casually in a shirt and trousers.
If you have to wear a shirt everyday, then wear a printed one on Saturday. Wear a straight formal skirt instead of trousers. Wearing a happy colour like, yellow or pink can also make a difference.
If you don't wear Indian outfits on a regular basis, then wear a salwaar kameez or chudidar.
Dressed to Kill
Going to work in a faded jeans and old t-shirt is not such a good idea if your job demands you to be glamorous.
Glamorous may not always mean less. Team trousers with a simple satin top together with wedge heels and studs, and you will look stunning.
Keep an eye on the latest trend and keep changing them according to seasons. But it is very important to wear clothes that suit your body. If you find this tough, take a second opinion or ask the store consultant. Accessories but don't over do anything.
Culture Apart
The dress code of the entire office is not always the same. Sometimes if one department wears formals another may have a casual culture.
More than the hr hear it is important that you talk to the head of your department for the dress code.
Be Prepared
During your interview, observe how everyone around is dressed. This should give you some idea about the dress code of your future company.
Neelam Mehra, Asst. Manager, Emmay HR says, " We usually advise our candidates to dress formally for an interview. Trousers and a shirt are fine for everyone. Accessorise, but keep it minimal, as the attention of the interviewer should not be distracted from the interviewee."
If things still are not very clear, then make an effort to ask the HR executive that you interact with about the dress code.
Also, ask if you will have to go for external meetings and the dress code for them.
