JET LI: I think… first of all five years ago, I wanted to make a film for my daughter. That's why I told many people I want to make a family movie. Usually my movies are art reading art. So then I got a script. An American writer is writing a Chinese story. Something's wrong there…doesn't make sense (laughs) because they put a lot of characters in the one story. But in the culture they would never put them together. So now I think about it and I say bring the writer. I want to talk to him. So I talked to him. I think the big change is the American boy has dreamed…he loves movies…he loves kung fu movies…so he has a dream.
THE SCREENING ROOM: Ok. Now of course this movie makes the first time you and another icon in Asian cinema Jackie Chan working together, why did it take so long for you to work together?
JET LI: Because 15 years ago we wanted to work together but because we both belonged to different companies… the copyrights… they discuss… they made more trouble than us…we just actors we want to make movies together. But it doesn't work. Years ago in the states, I think Revolution paid 1 million dollars for a writer to write a script but Jackie doesn't like it. So it stopped.
This time I was involved first, after years Jackie heard, so Jackie wanted to play another part and of course I was very very happy to, after 15 years, work together in the movie. But it was difficult before, for two actors, who play the bad guy? Who's the good guy? Who's gonna win in the movie? So that's the agents and managers had to discuss. In this movie, both are good guys. So I think that is the start point.
