How to Choose?
Age
Make sure you look for someone who is at least 35 years old. A young unmarried babysitter can be irresponsible while too old a lady may not be healthy enough to take care of a growing child.
Experience
She should have worked as a babysitter and handled babies as old as yours. Ask her to give you references. Make sure you cross check on these references. Apart from that, keep her photo identity card with you.
Personality
If you are working full time, you will have to leave your baby with the babysitter for the better part of the day. So make sure your babysitter has a pleasant personality. You don't want someone who always has a frown on her face. Make sure she is clean and well dressed.
How to Train?
Food
Don't confuse your babysitter with confusing measuring cups and jars. You could give her standard measuring spoons and ask her to stick to them. For example, if you want her to mix one scoop of formula to 30ml of water, set aside a cup that measures 30 ml.
Teach her to sterilize bottles. If you think she is not doing a good job, you can buy extra bottles, sterilize them yourself and refrigerate them for immediate use.
Once your baby starts on solids, teach her how to make a meal for your baby. Boil all vegetables before you leave for work. Make life as easy as you can for her.
Give her a food schedule and ask her to stick to it. Do not allow her to carry the child into the kitchen. If required, you can create a height restriction at the kitchen door so that your baby does not crawl in unnoticed.
