All this time, you probably read your little one a goodnight fairytale and put her off to sleep.
Since learning to read requires understanding of phonetics and remembering and recognising words visually, your child may suddenly develop a dislike for reading.
So how do you tackle this problem?
To make sure this transition is smooth and successful there are enough 'Learn to Read' programmes available in the market.
You may choose a programme depending on your child's learning style and pace. However, if you find it too tedious to handle you can take expert help as well.
Exploring on Your Own
If you are on your own with your child's reading mission, all you need to do is go to good bookshops and do enough search for the particular books your child may enjoy reading now.
There are many reading programmes by publishers like Scholastic, Ladybird and other Indian publishers.
However my recommendation is a book called, "The Reading Lesson: teach your child to read in 20 easy lessons."
It is a very well researched and well designed reading programme. If you just follow it to the point your child will be reading very fast.
Taking Help from Experts
If you do not feel very competent beyond reading out for bedtime, take help from experts.
There are reading classes in many big cities, especially in major cities like Mumbai and Bangalore. Apart from many individuals taking reading classes there are two established organisations, Joy of Reading and Education Made Easy.
You can enroll your child for any of these programmes. Most of these programmes take children aged three and above. They have classes once in a week and give hand outs for children to read and practise the entire week. You can check out classifieds or search the internet and contact them.
