How do you prepare your kid for it? What are the dos and don'ts?
Looking Out
Most schools create a congenial atmosphere for kids. Here are some of the things a reputed school looks out for during admissions:
- Familiarity
Ameeta Sangavi Shah, Psychotherapist and Soft skills Trainer says, "Schools want to know if your child is aware of the things around you such as your family name, how may fingers she has, names of different fruits and vegetables etc."
- Confidence
It might seem unfair that your child is being judged for her confidence at such an age, but many schools are looking for how active and outspoken your child is.
- Reciprocation
Bhanumati Ramachandran, Teacher, informs that school authorities are interested to know how well your child would respond to the things around them, to the questions that are asked to her.
What Do You Do?
According to Bhanumati, it makes more sense to prepare and teach your kids from the moment they are aware of the things around them. This involves teaching them basic manners and making them aware of the things like their fingers, or household items etc.
Your child's senses like touch, vision and auditory should be sharpened right from the age where she has an understanding of theses senses, adds Ameeta.
How to Teach?
The best way to teach your kids is through play time. Banu Parameshwaran, Teacher, says that you should make things as natural as possible, like explaining what water is when she drinks a glass of water, or what a flower is when you pass on.
Make Her Understand
Make sure that your child does get into the habit of memorising. Make her understand the things around her instead.
