Read on and see how you can use murals to transform your home into a dreamland.
Murals are reflections of your imagination. So let your thoughts run wild, while you do up your walls.
For instance, if you love the ocean, have it painted across your bedroom wall. Imagine waking up by the beach, everyday.
If you are the spiritual kind, you could get a religious painting done. This would be ideal for a prayer room or even a meditation nook. Another interesting idea for a mural is Madhubani paintings.
This ancient art specialises in paintings of Hindu gods and goddess and is perfect for a home with an ethnic theme.
Nature lovers can get a beautiful landscape painted on. Or perhaps a simple tree that starts up a pillar and spreads all the way across the room. Your options are limitless… the wilder your imagination, the better the wall art. Just remember, murals make a room appear smaller.
So select designs in lighter shades. This will let the room look brighter. So be adventurous and create a mural that reflects your personality.
Here are a few facts you need to know before you start thinking of your wall of art.
How much will it cost?
Wall art definitely comes at a price. But it is definitely worth it. Although each artist quotes differently, the overall price depends on the design and area of the wall to be painted on.
For instance, The price for a design spreading entirely on one wall, including a panel and one part of the roof, would cost around Rs.25000 and goes up in lakhs.
How is it done?
Every mural artist has a unique technique of painting. While most artists use an airbrush (a small spray gun used for painting), a few do it freehand.
- Paint a pillar only instead of the entire wall.
- Use a particular colour.
- Don't choose an elaborate, detailed design
- Ask an artist for tips.
Wonderland for Kids
Murals are ideal for kids' rooms. You can get your child's favourite cartoon character painted on the wall, and make them fall in love with their room. Tree trunks, with birds and forest animals on, and around it, are a great idea.
If you don't want to touch your walls, you can mount a plywood panel and paint on it. This way, whenever you want to redo your walls, all you need to do is tear down the panel.
You could also create drama by painting on the panels, between the windows, instead of the entire wall.
