Fall-Winter 2008: Mandira Wirk | Varun Bahl | Vikram Phadnis | Gauri & Nainika | Deepika Govind | Ashima-Leena | Rina Dhaka | Amrish Kumar | Swapan and Seema | Rahul Khanna and Rohit Gandhi
And with the Wills Lifestyle India Fashion Week just around the corner, we asked the Grand woman of Indian fashion, Ritu Kumar, about the possibility of western formals becoming the in-thing for women in the Indian scenario. To that she answers, "I don't think so..." And why? "India has a strong alternative to formal wear. With our churidaars, kurtis and saris, we really dont have to resort to western formals."

So what's up this fashion guru's sleeve for Fall-Winter this season? We believe Ritu Kumar is taking up where she left off from the last Fall-Winter (2007) and going to a different (read: HOT) level this time. How?
This season THE RITU KUMAR LABEL line promises excitement as the classical design house goes into a fresh avant guard collection of sillouettes and abstracts.
Remember the use of tie and dye the last time, especially on denims? Well, this time the collection opens to- grey's and white's which are simplistic in shape, modern in its patterning and uses reflective surfaces to highlight minimalism.
The line uses modern blended fabrics and accents them with hints of mirror work and embroidery. It's ULTRA NEW AGE MEETS ORIENTALISM. Also, don't be surprised to find a lot of indigo dye being used on the materials.
Ritu also introduces her son Amrish Kumar into the Indian Fashion scene this Fashion Week. Joining Label in Creative Direction, Ritu says about her son, "Amrish brings along with him a fresh energy to the label." We are all looking forward to the creative collaboration between mother and son.
The finale will see a lot florals this time. Clinging jersey is what gives the collection its edge as the curtain falls on the new Ritu Kumar label line, designed by Ritu and Amrish Kumar.
The collection delivers with elegance a simplistic and clean look with a splash of detailing that enhances impact. The fabrics include jersey, silk chinon, satin and indigo Khadi all styled together in a semi-formal look.
