Do not disregard it for a regular vaginal infection. It can be Pelvic Inflammatory Disease (PID).
Pelvic Inflammatory disease is sexually transmitted and affects especially those women who are sexually active and have multiple partners.
It starts with regular infection symptoms but gradually starts spreading to your genital area.
How Will I Know?
In case you are heading towards PID, you will have severe itching in your genital area with excessive and foul smelling white discharge. However, these symptoms are noticed when it is in low genital area.
The moment it spreads to the upper genital area, you may have severe back and abdominal pain. You can also have very scanty and irregular menstrual cycles.
In case your partner is experiencing a burning sensation while urinating or is having a swelling in his penis then you need to alert your doctor.
Whenever you find such symptoms please do not disregard it. Instead visit your doctor before it is too late.
Treatment
Pelvic Inflammatory disease can be treated if it is in its initial stages or when it has just started affecting the lower area. Your doctor may give you some antibiotics and cream to treat it.
You may be asked to get an ultrasound done by your doctor to find out the extent of inflammation. Depending on the extent of inflammation, the treatment will be given. But in case the inflammation is too much then it may not be possible to treat it.
