Perimenopausal and menopausal women are prone to a vaginal infection called Senile Vaginitis. Read on to find out what it is and how it can affect you.
Reasons...
Low oestrogen level is the main cause behind senile vaginitis. When you reach menopause or are heading towards it, your oestrogen levels go down and the lubrication of the vagina is at its all time low.
Also, when the oestrogen level goes down, the vaginal wall becomes thinner and begins to lose its elasticity.
As a result, you may have a dry vagina and due to this dryness, the vaginal area will also become itchy. The skin around your vagina is very delicate and even the slightest itch can cause cuts which can bleed if ignored.
