Infertility
Obesity is a major cause of infertility in both men and women. When you are obese, the fat cells increase the production of the hormone oestrogen which makes your body react like it is on birth control.

Hence, ovulation may not happen at all. Even low weight can cause infertility. It leads to decrease in the production of the hormone GnRh which is essential for regular ovulation. This affects the development of uterine lining and its possibility of embedding the eggs in the embryo.
Gestational Diabetes
There is a high risk of your having gestational diabetes during pregnancy if you happen to be overweight.
"This is so because excessive weight increases insulin resistance and this prevents your body from effectively using the insulin that is being produced," explains Dr. Soni.
Preeclampsia
Preeclampsia is high blood pressure induced hypertension. And if you happen to be overweight, hypertension is a given. Add that to pregnancy and you are doubly prone to pre-eclampsia.
