Sex Education at Home

This is the time to introduce sexually transmitted diseases (STDs), mainly AIDS. Showing films like Philadelphia or My Brother Nikhil is a good idea - you can follow it up with an informal discussion. It is important to highlight that some STDs may be incurable or fatal and talk about how to avoid contracting it.
This is also the time teens might be confused about their sexuality. Create a friendly atmosphere at home, so that they will share their doubts freely with you.
Seek guidance from a sex counsellor or psychologist if required. Don't suppress a child's sexual preference, as it will resurface again later anyway.
