Many mothers who come to me with their children are still not clear about what exactly viral fever is, and how much you should worry if your child or you get it
Virus Attack
Though this term is used loosely for all fevers, viral fevers are actually caused by viruses.
Remember, infections are usually caused by three groups of germs-bacteria, virus and parasites.
Of these, the infections caused by bacteria and parasites can be cured with the help of antibiotics and anti-parasite medicines. However, most viral fevers have no cure and you have to depend on your body's immune system to be cured.
Whenever there is a change in the climate, heavy rains, excess cold or heat, virus that causes viral fever thrives and spreads throughout.
Viruses need a host (an animal or a human being) for their survival, and hence they quickly infect the host organism.
Inside the host, they multiply, cause disease, and also spread from one host to another, through air, direct contact or through excretions and secretions.

How to Know
Most viral fevers that become an epidemic have no name, and are identified by the common symptoms that they produce.
Here's what you can expect:
- Cold
- Cough
- Body ache
- Headache
- Fever
- Feeling of tiredness and fatigue
The disease starts off slowly, with a feeling of tiredness and lethargy, and soon progresses to its full blown state.
After three or four days, as your immune systems successfully produces anti-bodies to fight the virus, the symptoms start going down, and completely disappear in a week's time.
