Anaemia in pregnant women is generally caused by haemo-diluation. Your blood is made up of plasma and red blood cells.
When you are pregnant the quantity of plasma and cells do not increase similarly. The plasma quantity generally is higher than the red blood cells because of the increased water circulation in your body.

In case you are anaemic then your immunity level comes down and you are more prone to infections.
Also at the time of delivery there is lot of blood loss and you may not be able to tolerate it if you are anaemic. Also, you may have a premature delivery.
If you are anaemic, you are bound to be deficient in proteins too. This is because haemoglobin in the blood is made up of iron and proteins.
In the term haemoglobin, "haemo" means iron and "globin" means proteins. If you are anaemic you are likely to feel tired and weak as well.

The effect of anaemia on your baby depends on how severely anaemic you are. In case you are mild or moderately anaemic, your baby will not be anaemic.
This is because your baby is like a perfect parasite. She will take away all the nutrients from your body that is available. However in case you are severely anaemic then your baby can have problems.
She may have low birth weight and can be under nourished.
