These are the most common fears you may have while expecting your baby.
Your baby is surrounded by a fluid called the amniotic fluid. It is also called the water bag. This fluid helps in protecting your baby from infections.
When the amniotic fluid sac breaks, it is also called breaking of the water bag.
Ways to Know
It could be difficult for you to realise that it is the amniotic fluid that you are losing. This is because the colour is deceptive and you may think you have urinary incontinence.

However, remember that it is not necessary that the entire amniotic fluid content will gush out at once. It could also start leaking in drops, much like dripping of urine.
However, if you are just leaking then you may not feel the contractions. When in doubt, you can distinguish the water from urine by simply smelling the soaked pad. The amniotic fluid does not smell anything like urine.
When you are leaking or are losing the fluid, you are likely to feel a constant wetness; and you need to consult your doctor as soon as possible.
