The Third Trimester
- Whether your baby is in a normal or breech position, can be seen through an ultrasound. So if you have to have a C-section, you are prepared.
- During the last trimester, a Colour Dopplar Sonography is done. In this procedure, you can check the blood flow in the baby to see if she is growing normally and is healthy.
Other than This
Doctor Meera Agarwal says that when a mother is nervous about having a first baby, or has had miscarriages, an ultrasound is reassuring. "You can show the mother that her baby is growing fine, is healthy and perfect," says Dr. Agarwal.
Is It Painful?
"Not at all," says Dr. Rishma Dillion Pai, "An Ultrasound is completely harmless and the baby doesn't feel anything either, since there are just sound waves. So for the baby it is just like hearing voices."

How Often?
"The most important ultrasounds are taken in the first few weeks after conception, in the fourth month of pregnancy and in the eight month before giving birth," says Dr. Pai.
But just having three or four ultrasounds isn't enough. To keep track of the baby's growth and health, your doctor will ask you to take more of them.
How Expensive
A Sonography can range anywhere between Rs.100 to Rs.2000 depending on where you get it done from. Apart from that, you can also get a 3-D or 4-D Sonography done, which will cost you more.
