Taking the oral contraceptive pills or the OCPs is simple enough method, but the pills need to be taken regularly, without a single day miss.
Also, some pill packs contain twenty eight pills, including seven placebos for just to keep the woman in habit of taking pills. They are marked with a different colour in the pill pack. If a placebo is taken instead of the OCP before a woman gets her period, she is exposed to risk of pregnancy despite being on OCPs.

If you happen to miss out on a dose of OCP, you must take it within 12 hours along with the prescribed dose for that day as well.
You must avoid skipping the missed dose thinking that two tablets in a day may cause you problem. The truth is that if you do not have the missed pill, then you head towards a problem.

Missing one pill is okay but if you miss more than a day then the entire course can go haywire and the chances of conceiving may increase.

If you have missed more than one day's dose then you need to inform your doctor and go for an emergency contraception.
Emergency contraception is done by inserting Intrauterine Device (IUDs) or by giving you some hormonal treatments which will prevent the fertilised egg from attaching itself to your uterus.
If you have the pill without missing then you can reduce the risk to one to two per cent and if you miss more than three pills in a course, then the risk goes up to two to five per cent, says Dr. Raut.
Intrauterine Device (IUD)
Copper T is a small T-shaped device. It is inserted inside your uterus to prevent pregnancy. Since insertion of Copper T may lead to gynaecological complications such as uterine infections and pain, using OCPs or condoms may be simpler.
You must try to avoid doing it on your own.

If the Copper T is inserted the right way, then the risk of pregnancy can be reduced to one or two per cent. Make sure you get it inserted from a practicing gynaecologist and know and follow hygiene routine as instructed by the doctor.
Remember, no contraceptive can guaranty 100 percent protection from pregnancy except abstinance. Correct use of contraceptive will help reduce the risk to the lowest possible.
