However, is it really a good idea to pop emergency contraceptives or morning-after pills on a regular basis?
What are the side effects and risk factors?
But First
Wondering what is the basic difference between an oral contraceptive pill and a morning-after pill?
Let us get that clear first.
An oral contraceptive pill prevents ovulation with small doses of hormones on a daily basis. Oral contraception is ideal if you want to prevent unplanned pregnancies. You can have this pill on a daily basis.

On the other hand, a morning-after pill prevents the implantation of the fertilised egg in the womb. This kind of contraception is usually used after sex. This pill contains the same hormones as in the oral contraceptive pills, the only difference being that the dosage of hormones is much higher in the morning-after pill.
So, What Is the Risk?
According to Dr. Satish N. Tibrewala, Gynaecologist from Lady Ratan Tata Medical and Research Centre, "As a routine counselling session we tell our patients never to use the morning-after pill regularly. This is simply because the high hormone content in the pill can cause risks."
Remember, since you are having a high dose of hormones, you are likely to have symptoms related to hormone overdose.
