According to Dr. Tibrewala, if you have a history of the following health issues, make sure you avoid the morning-after pill at all cost:
- If you have undergone psychiatric treatment or help, because an overdose of hormones can tamper with your medication.
- If you are a chronic asthma patient, an overdose of hormones can also tamper with your ashtma medication.
- You have a problem of varicose veins, which could result in deep vein thrombosis with excessive MAPs.
- You have a history of problems with your liver. You could have a tumour in your liver if you continue hormonal intake.
Apart from that, if you have a history of the following health problems, you need to avoid the MAP to be on the safe side:
- You have or had hypertension
- You have a history of migraine. This is because one of the common side effects of an MAP is headache and migraine. So, if you have had migraine, it could spiral out of control/
Remember, an emergency contraceptive pill is to be used only for emergencies, and not for everyday use. So, make sure you don't just pop the pill at every instant.
The emergency pill (as well as oral contraceptive pills) also does not protect against sexually transmitted diseases, especially HIV. So, exercise caution when you pop an emergency pill the next time.
