The most important thing to keep in mind is to not blame yourself when a relationship fails. Self blame is not the solution; it only weakens your resolve and self-confidence.
On a somewhat lighter note, Subuhi suggests, "Indulge in a one night stand; it definitely boosts confidence!" She does caution against a rebound relationship as they, "Can be dangerous."
Varkha Chulani, a clinical psychologist with Mumbai's Lilavati Hospital explains, "Don't condemn yourself or the partner for a failed relationship. After all you nurtured it for as long as you could. The idea is not to forget the relationship but keep the memories alive."
- Stop asking why? Questioning doesn't help!
- Don't blame yourself or your partner.
- Don't try to forget the past.
- Accept the reality and deal with it.
Varkha suggests to stop questioning as to why the relationship failed. Instead take the failure as stoically as possible and move on with life.
However, as she puts it, "Getting over a broken relationship varies from person to person and their sensibilities. The intensity of the attachment is important too."
A broken relationship might just be the beginning to something better. So, don't hold yourself back. Take it in your stride and face the world!
