There are many pre-conceived thoughts against counselling in India. Some of the most common ones are 'what will society say if they know that our family goes for counselling', 'it is only the insane and mentally unstable who need a counsellor' or 'a counsellor is just another person who can do nothing to help'.
But it is important to remember that if you realise that your family needs counselling then you must go and get help.
If you do not then the pain, stress and emotional distress could build up within you. Remember that you begin by feeling helpless and when that helplessness is suppressed then you will go on to feeling worthless. This could lead to depression or even a nervous breakdown later in your life.

Counsel Away Your Problems
It is important to know that people go to counsellors for any problem that overwhelms them and a situation that they cannot deal with.
Remember that a counsellor has the expertise and skills to understand what you and your family is going through, help you all understand your own problems and deal with it as a family.
In case your family is facing a problem that you cannot handle within then do go to a counsellor with an effort to solve the problem and have a happy, healthy family life.
It also helps you see that you all are there for each other always.
Sonali Gupta says, "You must approach the counsellor as a preventive measure. You don't have to wait for the problem to explode to seek help."
No matter what your problem is you can visit a family counsellor and solve it.
