- I Know You Well…Lets Go Out
Sharmila D'souza, 32, beautician and Fawaz Kabani, 35, businessman was best friends before they dated each other.
They knew each other so well that by their own admission they just assumed that things will go well between them. They were single then, they knew each other and there was no ice-breakers needed.
"We were best friends for five years before Fawaz asked me out. I always knew that there was a certain amount of attraction but did not know how to pursue him lest it ruin our friendship," says Sharmila.
And ruin the friendship it did. Fawaz knew too much about Sharmila and her past relationships. Whenever they had an argument, he brought up her past and drew similarities between her relationships in the past to the one they shared.
"This strained me completely and after two years of togetherness we decided to end it. It ended on a bitter note and now I have lost my best friend," says Sharmila.
Breaking it to friends and family: Breaking it to her friends and family was not easy at all for Sharmila.
"When I think back now, I believe that breaking it to my friends was more difficult than my family. This is because I had another good friend who was interested in Fawaz and I just did not know how to tell her that I was seeing him," she says.
Sharmila eventually told her over drinks in a bar one night. She believes that she took the easy way out but as long as she told her, it was okay.
"My family was more supportive. I still remember that my mother was kicked because I had a foreigner for a boyfriend," she laughs.
