"I cannot understand what the fuss is all about. What is the big deal about a woman picking up a man at a club? Women are as capable as men of making the first move. I do it all the time; I would not want to miss out on some fun because the guy did not have the courage to ask first," says an ex-Miss India on condition of anonymity.
According to this go-getter, for her it is all about freedom and doing what she wants to do. Not only does it give her a great ego boost but also gives her the power to pick and choose.
"I know I am sexy and desirable. But being a known face automatically puts me out of the reach of every other man. So, for a change, I am the one calling the shots."
The fact that someone is being 'picked up' - a man or woman - implies mutual consent. So which of the two takes the initiative depends purely on the nature of the two people involved.
"Would I do it? Well, I definitely would not let the fact that I am a woman stop me," asserts a former VJ and current actor, who is now in a stable relationship.
As successful women, often living on their own and on their terms, picking up a man is just another way to assert their independence. But they insist, it is not all about power-high, oestrogen-driven
women on a sexual conquest.
