But you can create the perfect meditation nook in your home and rejuvenate those senses.
Visions that Calm
If you see peaceful elements, you will feel calm from within. Do up your meditation nook in cool colours like blues, sea greens, whites and lemons. Choose harmonious hues - white walls with lemon curtains or a white yoga mat with light blue throw cushions.
Try and set up your meditation nook near a window, so you get as much light as possible. This will create a sense of freedom and will help you relax. However, if you are comfortable in dimly lit spaces, then draw the curtains and light a few candles or lamps.
Surround yourself with plants. Plants purify the air and are pleasing to the eyes. You could also place a few pebbles to create a relaxed ambience.
If you like animals, then a fish tank is a good thing to have around a meditation nook. The flowing movement of the fish and bubbles have a calming effect.
And for you avid readers out there, keep a bookshelf with a few spiritually uplifting books like books of daily devotions, and holy writings or even self-help books. You could also keep a journal and write about the positive happenings of your day.
Lastly, you could put up pictures of loved ones or soothing scenery. The idea is to surround yourself with imagery that delights you.
Fragrances that Heal
Fragrances like sandalwood, lavender and lemon have a calming effect. You can decorate your meditation nook with scented candles, potpourri, fresh flowers, incense, agarbati sticks or even herbal oils. You could place a deep, earthen dish in a corner of the nook, fill it with water and sprinkle it with fresh petals and floating candles. Sounds that Ease
Unwind from the buzz of the city and immerse yourself in the sounds of peace and tranquillity. Get yourself a tabletop fountain. The sound of flowing water will help you relax.
You could also keep a stereo system and listen to tapes or CDs of the sounds of nature - rain, the forest, the ocean, etc. If you are not a great fan of the outdoors, then you could listen to soothing music like instrumentals, hymns or chants. If space is a problem, just download the songs onto your mp3 player and plug in your earphones.
