MARIA GORETTI remembers her childhood clearly as she tells this writer about how she and her siblings used to pay in the field while her grandma cooked the most delicious fish she has ever had.
The beautiful thing about food is not just savouring tasty memories but actually cooking dishes that are mum's favourite.
Here are a few recipes that come straight out of a celebrity mum's kitchen.
Maria Goretti

"My mum passed on her delicious mutton moilee to me. And even though I follow this recipe to the tee, it is still not as good as my mum's. The trick in this recipe is my mum's East Indian masala and the vinegar which she makes."

1 1/2 litre of coconut milk
1/2 litre of thick coconut
1/2 kg tomatoes
8 onions (finely chopped)
1 pod of garlic
1 medium ginger (finely chopped)
1 spoon of vinegar
2 tablespoons of bottle masala
A handful of corriander (finely chopped)
Method
- Clean and wash the mutton well
- Fry the mutton in little oil and set aside
- Fry onions in a seperate dish till brown
- Add the chopped tomatoes
- Add the ginger and garlic when the onions and tomatoes are nicely fried
- Put the mutton with the onions, tomatoes, ginger and garlic and add the vinegar to all this
- Add the 1/2 litre of coconut milk and stir well
