In this case, you may be advised to switch to a vegetarian diet. But if you are non-vegetarian and love your meats, don't quit non-vegetarian because it is good for you and for your unborn baby.
Here is a comprehensive list of which meats are good for you and which are not.
Why Meat Is Good
Meat is a great source of protein and iron for your body. Since cell walls are made of protein you need it when you are pregnant as you are growing a new being inside you. Your baby needs protein to grow, to make her cells multiply at a good pace.
A Sudden Deprivation
If you are a non-vegetarian, depriving yourself of meat can be dangerous for you and your baby. This is because your body is accustomed to getting it's proteins and iron from meat and if you suddenly change your eating patterns, your protein balance will go haywire.
The sudden loss of protein will make you feel weak and tired.
On the other hand, your vegetarian pregnant friend's bodies are already conditioned to getting their proteins from dals so they don't need to turn non-vegetarian.
No Overdose
Proteins and irons are great, but sadly meat also contains fat. So chances are, an overdose of meat will make you fat. It is understandable that "getting bigger" is a part of pregnancy, but even if you are okay will those few extra kilos, too much fat is bad for your body…
Too Much Fat Is Bad Because:
- Being overweight can cause high blood pressure, which means less blood will reach your baby
- It can increase cholesterol
- You may get diabetes
