Director Meghana is: Oh, perfectly imperfect! I have a long, long way to go. I don't compare myself with anybody. Always, my last film is my yardstick, and my goal is to improve upon that.
I like to portray simplicity with an edge, and to some extent, I think I succeeded in doing that with Just Married. But an important question is that of subtlety: I realise that sometimes, you can be too subtle for the audience, and I am working on correcting that.
And the first shot: I assisted Sayeed Mirza on a film called Naseem. My first ever shot was for a video film that brought home the significance of Diwali--why it is celebrated and what it means to our culture.
It was a musical with five adult actors and seven children, so I was terribly nervous--handling children can be quite a challenge even for seasoned directors.
But I don't know what happened to that film--I don't think it ever saw the light of day.
Meghana the person: A very homely, normal person! I like to spend time at home with my husband. We miss each other when we are apart, which is often.
I don't get the time to do much else. There was a time when I freelanced as a journalist and wrote poetry, but now, as I move from project to project, I have no time for much else. And I'm happy that way.
