Delzeen Irani, 25, data executive says, "I am 25 years; I earn my own money, but I still give my complete salary to my mother. She feels that I cannot manage my money and it will be safe with her."
Psychiatrist, Dr. Ketan Parmar says, "In this case the mother is just looking out for her and believes that her daughter cannot take care of her money. The mother wants to control her expenses."
Talk to Mum: If you go through what Delzeen is going through, then explain to your mum that the only way you will learn to handle money, is if you can handle your own.
Tell her that your contributions towards the home will continue, but the only way you will learn about economising, is if you are given control of your own money. Discuss household expenses with your mother.
"Isn't that Blouse too Revealing?"
Saina Saldanha, 26, corporate trainer says, "My mother makes it a point to choose practically all my clothes. Even if I do go shopping without her, she will have a critical comment on the types of blouses I buy."
Dr. Ketan Parmar says, "This comes down to a generation gap. If your mother is orthodox, then she will comment on your clothes. This is a conflict between the mother and daughter that needs to be resolved through communication."
Talk to Mum: Your mother still wants to make decisions regarding your clothes because that is probably one way for her to be more involved in your life. Tell her that you appreciate her concern and comments but you are wearing things you are comfortable with.
