Mona Pandit, 21 was excited about celebrating her first Diwali in her marital home. Besides experiencing a different way of celebration, her in-laws invited her parents too.
About a week before the festival, Mona's mother suggested that she use a potato paste on her face.
"Mum told me that potato would remove my tan and lighten the traces of dark circles too. My mother-in-law overheard her and suggested that I use milk. Since it had antioxidants it was better than potato. Both of them were pushing their own recommendations," says Mona.
She could have used the two suggestions on different days, but if she used the potato first, then her mother-in-law would have felt bad and vice versa.
In an effort to please the both of them and also send the message across to both of them, Mona made a paste of potato and milk.
"It was bad - it smelt funny and finally didn't improve anything. When my mom and ma-in-law saw, they were shocked and asked me to wash my face immediately," laughs Mona.
Their Solution: Mona told her mother and mother-in-law that she knew the both of them had her best interest at heart. She would like to take both their advice and if she used one's suggestion before the other, did not mean like she was listening to just one.
