In the Limelight

Today with exotic lighting you can do up your kitchen and turn it around from being a place for your maid to a showpiece that you can flaunt.
Focal lights can do wonders for your kitchen. Have fancy spotlights inside your glass-fronted cabinets to show off your favourite silverware or that gorgeous bone china tea set.
You could also have mood lighting to highlight a particular area of your kitchen. Take for instance, a kitchen island. You can accentuate it with subtle red or blue light above it. It can even be turned into the perfect family area with yellow pendant lighting.
For the areas that will be used for chopping and cooking you could opt for fluorescent white lighting (tube lights). They throw brighter light onto your work surfaces creating a safe work area.
Try using the same kind of fluorescent tube lights under your kitchen cabinets or concealing them under overhead shutters especially in near the sink area so that water doesn't splash on the lights.
A Splash of Light
Avoid hanging light fixtures in the bathroom, as they tend to get grimy with constant water splashing. Instead try wall-mounted fixtures or ceiling spotlights.
Don't forget a light above your mirror. You don't want to strain your eyes just to see your face in it.
