But how do you get work?
Who do you give your cd's out to? Siddharth says that these days there are voice coordinators. "But television channels are looking for new voices and since there is so much work, they are very approachable. So you can call up the television channel and contact the promo producer. Also you can call up advertisement agencies and ask for the voice over producers."
Having contacts, though, is always a bonus and may help you get started a lot easier.
What else can you do?
Having a good voice does not mean you are stuck behind the microphone all day. Noel Keymer says that you can be a radio jockey, do dubbing and if you can sing, you can do jingles too.
Later, when you are more known in the line you can also compare shows or host television shows!
Does the quality of your voice drop with age?
If maintained, you can sound as young as 18 even when you are 47, Noel tells us.
Noel Keymer and Siddharth Kannan say that this is what you need to take care of:-
- Don't smoke, it makes you sound tired and old with time.
- Stay away from alcohol.
- Don't tire your voice much by shouting and screaming.
- Drinking hot water with honey, or turmeric (haldi) with warm milk in it helps.
- Stay away from oily and fried foods.
- Don't drink cold water at least half an hour before an assignment.
- If you think that breathing in pollution messes up your throat, then cover your mouth with a handkerchief when on the road.
