Even without any certificates or experience, it is possible to land a meaty assignment depending on your interview and presentation skills. If the company likes what you have to offer, they may not bother about the rest.
As a fresher, the trick is to approach smaller companies first, and then the bigger ones like Wipro, GE or IBM. You can post your CV on various jobsites, get visiting cards printed and keep a PowerPoint presentation ready.
Note: This is necessary only if you have no prior experience as a trainer with any company.
4. Materials
Most training institutes provide extensive material that you can put to your use. Apart from that, there are various aptitude tests and online accent courses with regard to phonetics and pronunciation, grammar, teaching methodology etc.
Online research will help you identify training areas and customize your course according to a company's needs - whether for telephone etiquettes, sales, back-office etc.
Books and CDs on accent or grammar are also available in the market at any good store.
- Networking is the key to landing successful assignments as a trainer. Your credibility is built by word of mouth publicity.
- It is important to strike the right balance between prioritizing your students and following company guidelines.
- While teaching, don't go off on a tangent. Always map your teaching to the students'/company's requirements.
- Make learning fun. Once people enjoy your courses, your popularity will spread.
- Constantly upgrade your skills and keep abreast of current affairs - basically stay on top of things.
What You Earn
For a fresher, the charges are usually around R.200 to Rs.250 per hour. With experience and depending on your skills, you can command anywhere between Rs.750 to Rs.1000 per hour. Do all negotiations before-hand and preferably have everything down in writing.
As a freelancer, it is up to you to choose the number of assignments you want to take up and the time you want to devote to training. At the same time, freelancing does not mean you do not adhere to strict timings once you have committed to an assignment.
You can also branch into foreign language, personality development, sales and marketing or behavioral training, depending on your interests.
