Furniture designers may be self-employed or can work with design firms, manufacturing companies, interior designers and other consultants.

Self-employed designers will need to invest in space, materials, equipments and manual labour, which requires substantial investment.
Designers with experience can eventually move into specialised areas of design or may even become buyers for design houses and stores.
Money Matters
Depending on whether you are self-employed or employed by a design house and type of furniture, furniture designers can make as much as Rs. 5,000 per furniture piece sold. Some designers also work on a commission basis. Ultimately, the sky is the limit!
A career as a furniture designer can be a highly creatively satisfying and monetarily rewarding one if you have the aptitude and skills.
