While The Music Plays
Like in any other field, women DJs have to be careful about the kind of people they work with. When it comes to payments, be careful as there are many who default. Always insist on half the payment as an advance and the rest before you start performing (in cash).
If you are performing at a club or lounge or even a private party, make sure to keep those on alcohol at bay. If a guest behaves badly or tries to get close, warn him. Always be polite and don’t let the situation get out of hand. If you feel the need, ask the management / host to have a word with an impolite guest. Bottomline? Don’t let anyone take you for granted!
What Is Your Music Worth?
Depending on the kind of work you do (club gigs / private parties / corporate events), your claim to fame (competitions won / album releases) and experience, a DJ earns anywhere between Rs. 5,000 to a couple of lakhs for a single night. If you are employed with a club or hotel, the remuneration would depend on the kind of understanding you have with the management.
Play On!
A DJ is a performer as well. Even your 100th performance should have the same energy level as your first! Talk to the crowd, make them feel you are one with them and make them realise you who you are. If music is the food for your soul, play on then!
