Do you want to walk the ramp or do you want to make a career as a print or television model? Identify your strengths and weaknesses.
Remember to be realistic because you may be the most pretty looking woman in your peer group, but that does not automatically qualify you to be a ramp scorcher. Ramp models have to be at least 5 feet 6 inches tall! So if you are short, your face can launch products instead.
You can be a hand model or hair model or simply be the 'legs' for a new shoe commercial. Have a great set of teeth and a winning smile? You could be just perfect for new toothpaste commercial. The possibilities are infinite!
As a print or television model you may be required to dance, ride a bike or even jump off a cliff! Learn to dance, swim, drive a car or ride a bike and make sure you are physically fit. Don't regret losing out on an assignment because you did not know how to swim!
You can be 35 years old and portray 'mom' in a new TV commercial or you can be 60 years old and be the face of an ad campaign for senior citizens!
Say Cheese
Before you embark on your chosen path, remember to have a portfolio shot. Circulate your photos among modelling agencies, photographers, production houses and model coordinators.
You never know when you first big break will come from!
Got the Moolah?
Modelling is an expensive career. A professional portfolio will set you back by a few thousands (Rs.10,000 to Rs.20,000 upwards). Add to that cost of photos for various agencies and travel costs for auditions.
If you plan to be a ramp model, you need to be in shape. So be prepared to shell quite a sum for gym memberships and other add-ons - grooming classes, clothes, accessories, food, cosmetics, etc.
