Since a fashion show is primarily dependant on products or ensembles, your choreography should be minimalist. The stress should be laid on the style, rather than the movements. If you are looking at choreographing a fashion event, you should have the entire know how about fashion shows, from themes to accessories.
Since the choreography is based on style, rather than movements, you need to understand how to mix and match movements with the kind of clothes the models are wearing.
As a dance choreographer, however, you are responsible for your dance troupe and their performance. This includes all the movements, style, theme, song selection, costume and lighting. Knowledge of music and dance is a foremost pre-requisite.
The more you know, the easier it is for you to understand music and add dance steps to it. It is an added advantage if you were part of a dance troupe or trained under a professional dancer. This will give you a better idea and understanding about your work.
Kamlaksh Shetty, choreographer and owner of Kamlaksh Shetty Dance Studio says, "You need to have the confidence to lead a troupe. This is one of the most important features of a good choreographer."

To Start Off
You need to round up a troupe of good dancers who will dance to your steps. Today, it is easier if you initially spend a little extra and have a package to offer your client.
Choreographer Sagar Mhadolkar, of Nach Baliye 2 fame, says, "If you can have your own outfits for your troupe as well as a hall where you can practice, it is a good investment in the long run. You can then offer your clients a package deal."
For example, it won't be necessary to order clothes for the dancers from another source. You could tell your client that you would be getting it yourself and you could charge a little extra for it. It is a win-win situation for both.
