You do not need any educational qualification or experience to be a party planner. Flair to make any occasion special, creativity and innovative ideas, an eye for detail, planning and organising skills and a network of vendors and staff should suffice to get you started.
Who Is a Party Planner?
As a professional party planner it is your responsibility to organise parties for any occasions. From birthdays and anniversaries to cocktails and engagements and launches (music/products), you could either organise the entire party or a specialised service such as entertainment, décor or food and drinks.
You could also choose to specialise in any particular kind of party you like to do best. This could include special events, weddings, baby showers, theme parties etc.
Getting Started
You need little or no money to get started. Unless you decide to depend only on word of mouth publicity, you may have to spend a small amount on initial publicity. You could effectively market your party planner business through advertising and referrals. Effective communication and convincing skills would be an asset.
Unique party themes and locations, original invitation ideas, excellent food, drink and entertainment activities would help you create a niche for yourself Your credibility lies in innovative fun parties with most guests enjoying to their fullest and in word of mouth publicity.
All the expenses incurred in organising a party are borne by the host. However, you would need to pay your staff or helping hand, if any.
You need to network with vendors and suppliers to look into the following. This could however vary depending on the occasion, theme and the budget of the party.
