Career Prospects
- In most cases, the student learns dance at a particular institute and is taken in by the institute as an instructor.
- After the necessary certifications, you may be asked to teach another group, depending on the responsibility you can take and your dancing expertise.
- You can also begin by choreographing dance shows in your locality for festivals like Ganesh Chaturthi or Diwali, or help college students during college festivals.
The Money Factor
If you are teaching in an institute, the remuneration is related to the amount of responsibility you can handle. Usually, you can earn anything between Rs. 5000 to Rs. 16,000 per month to begin with.
It depends on how many number of students you are teaching per batch, the number of hours put in for classes per week, and your experience.
And if you are planning to teach independently, then you can expect to earn in the range of Rs. 2,000 to Rs. 6,000 per student.
This is depends on your popularity and demand as a teacher.

Remember
- You don't need to be in perfect shape or svelte figure to teach dance. However, since you will have to teach for two to three hours at a stretch, it requires a good amount of stamina.
- It is always better to start teaching in the institute where you have been trained, before branching out on your own. This will give you an idea whether you are temperamentally suited to teach.
- If you are planning to rent space, then opt for halls run by cultural centers like the Tamil Sangham or Kannadiga Sangham or Kairali. You can even approach schools to avail their halls for evening classes. They are cheaper to rent especially if you only book them for specific timings.
