There are a number of centres who recruit E-tutors. A few such online tutorials include Career Launcher, Growing Stars, TutorVista and Go4Math. Do an online search for more such centres under keywords 'online homework support, after school support, online tuitions'.
Remuneration
An E-tutor can expect remuneration in the range of Rs. 250 - Rs. 400 per hour. If tutoring class 1 to 10, you could expect to earn Rs. 250 per hour. This could increase at class 11 and 12, college and management levels. However, as a freelancer you would have the flexibility to decide on the number of hours you teach.
Quick Tips
- Remember, the students tutored may not be Indian students of the same grade in their understanding of subjects. You would have to be patient and have expectations that are different from what you would expect from Indian students.
- You must have good, all-round knowledge of the subject matter.
- A good understanding of the limits and limitations of the online environment would be handy.
- You should have the ability to adapt to the new environment needs in order to motivate the students in a virtual classroom.
- You should be able to provide support and encouragement to students and perform the role of mentor/counsellor as well as academic advisor.
- You should be comfortable in using email and other software to respond to student queries.
- You must take care to use activities that can help break ice in an online environment.
