Undoubtedly, the dressing table is very important. It is where you spend most of your time. So, why not do it up in style?

Choose a rectangular or oval mirror preferably. You could mount it directly on the wall or have it fixed to the tabletop. If you choose to have the latter, then it would be very useful to have it pivoted. This way you can adjust it at different angles.
Light it Up
Next comes lighting... you obviously cannot get dressed in the dark. Remember that your general bedroom lighting is not enough. You need a much brighter light. So use white or yellow light rather than coloured light.
You could have a halogen light above your mirror. However, if you want to avoid the heat then a regular light bulb in an attractive shade is just great. Fluorescent lighting (tube lights) is bright and cool too.
Another option is to have lights on either side of the mirror. For a lustrous effect you could have a couple of bulbs along the border of the mirror.
In the Store
And how could you forget all those lovely lipsticks and make-up? You don't want to get up from your dressing table every time you need to try on a new shade now, do you?
Drawers are ideal for all the little stuff. Since these are small items, decide the height of the drawers depending on the average height of your lipsticks and nail polish bottles.
You don't want a cosmetic catastrophe, so have little divisions in the drawer to separate lip liners from eyeliners and concealers. You could also have space for artificial jewellery.
For a more compact storage option, have a cabinet behind the mirror. Try cabinets with glass or acrylic shutters on one or both sides of the mirror. You can use them to keep colognes, lotions, and face scrubs too. If you feel cabinets are too boxy, then open shelves are a better option. And the plus point is you can display all your pretty designer perfumes!
Don't forget to include a little stool or pouf underneath your tabletop. It could double up as storage for your handbags and purses.
